“I go back to nature,

To be soothed and healed,

And to have my senses,

Put back in order.”

John Burroughs

What a lovely night, for camping

We were soothed, by nature’s bliss

I would love, to forsake modern life

I could easily live out my days, like this

No phone, no television, no computer

No modern day ‘gadgets,’ of any kind

Just the glorious gift, of God’s Creation

Camping, is the perfect way, to unwind

The tranquil full moon, shining down on us

The mesmerizing campfire, before we sleep

The sight and sound, of fireflies and crickets

Memories of a gorgeous day, that we will keep

Arising so refreshed, at dawn’s very first light

With my dogs and my spouse, greeting the sun

Camp coffee, good company, and melodious birds

I always regret when any camping that I do, is done

Whether I’m on The Great American Backyard Campout

Or, on a wilderness lake, miles from all modern civilization

I will always treasure each opportunity, to enjoy nature’s bliss

And I hope to keep camping, until my days on Earth, are done

What a lovely night, for camping,

We were soothed, by nature’s bliss;

I would love to forsake modern life,

I could easily live out my days, like this.

Lovely memories you bring to me with this poem, Ed. 4th of July weekend of 1937 camping out; about 20 of us on Maternal side family; at Meremac River and Onondaga Cave in central MO. First time I learned of and seen most beautiful stalactites and stalagmites. Entry into cave then was by boat, a stream entry, and down a waterfall (or so I thought then - was a two-foot drop-down :o)I was 4 years old and have never forgotten that camp out! Thanks for nudging my memory with your poem, my friend!!
Blessings and Love - Micke

I am just waiting to get a larger tent and warmer weather than I will also be out enjoying the outside the way it should be, so if you hear a guitar strummin and a poor imitation of a singer at a camp fire...come on over for a marshmallow

I went to the beach and ocean on the last two days & refound my lost soul...it was wonderful, even with all the tourists on the beach as well...when the weather is hot, the beach is crowded, but it is easy to block out all of them and remember my other season walks...Ed

Great pic to go with a great write. I agree Ed there's nothing quite like it, I have four sons and the best times we share is on camping trips in the Aussie bush. Ah, can't wait for summer again!
many thanks for the imagery,
David

My husband and I took a gorgeous two hour walk yesterday through a tree covered path, and on either side were rows and rows of corn...it was like a piece of Heaven..and does so much to "soothe" the soul" Beautiful write, Ed.
