The following song, written by Laurie Lonsdale, appears on Heidi Propp's debut CD, "Strong and Wild", released Feb. 2006. For more information, please see 'CD Release Party' listed in the "Events" section of this site.

ME

INTRO
I’ve always tried so hard
To fit in with the crowd
And compromised my life
Only to be let down
I’ve always been the one
To please everyone else
And now the time has come
I’ve got to please myself

VERSE
No more frettin’
‘Bout what people think
I’ve gotta steer my own ship
Though I run the risk to sink
No more cryin’ on my pillow
If I’m different from the rest
I need to chart my own course
Put my instincts to the test

No more makin’ myself crazy
‘Cuz I try to rearrange
Better learn to take me as I am
‘Cuz I’m not gonna change
So don’t expect to bend me
In the shape that you desire
‘Cuz I finally know who I am
And it’s someone I admire

CHORUS:
It’s not a matter of ego
It’s not a matter of pride
It’s just matter of finally fallin’
In love with what’s inside
It’s not a matter of who’s right
But I know that I’m not wrong
‘Cuz I’ve gotta be who I am
Or what’s the point of goin’ on?

VERSE
I’ll stare you down, I’ll tell you straight
Ain’t gonna pull a punch
I’ll be the one to stand up
When a push comes to a crunch
Got an underlyin’ feelin’
That it’s possible to win
‘Cuz I’ve come to terms with myself
And I’m free in my own skin

BRIDGE
With a smile on my face
My heart upon my sleeve
 Don’t question who I am
You get just what you see

CHORUS

I definitely liked this. I hope it's autobiographical.

Great song and poem. I loved the part of "being free within my skin." Really related. Liz

This is an excellent message, and one that is not expressed often enough.

Fine message, Laurie. I listen to you in my vehicle. You sound just fine. Love and peace,

There is so much truth to these lyrics. Very nice work, indeed.

Laurie:

What a wonderful song this is! and Heidi Propp is a beautiful lady. The place where she sang is in downtown Toronto, it would not have taken me long to go there had I known she was there performing, for I also live in Toronto.

Wonderful lyrics and is also inspiring! Good job!
