Embers

Lots going on today, but wanted to get something posted, short though it may be.

Embers, there are embers here, drifting through
Empty chambers that echo with some sort of bitter
Longing, a sadness I have not the means to define
Or articulate, a physical sensation like a half-chewed
Piece of food lodged in the back of my throat, vision
Blurred by what those embers represent as my heart turns
To soot, four blackened chambers at the center of everything
I thought I could be, if only I’d known the way.

END

Poets throughout centuries have tried to descibe the abyss. You did a jam up job for sure.

Very descriptive piece Mike! The dark night of the soul is well acquainted with illness and works very hard to keep us in the dark.
We can all look back if we choose, to what might have been, but it is far more beneficial to look ahead to what can be, with the light as our guide. Excellent poem!

Thank you,
Eileen
