In a shadowy, rainy clime

Bereft of white

I suffer silently toward the coming time

Awaiting the birth of Christ

Of the long arrival of Peace on Earth

And Good Will toward Mankind

I curse the truce

24 hours short

Suffering a bone-bruising ache

Absent from dear mother

beloved father

brothers and sisters alike

O’ treasured dog; my steadfast friend

And as the drizzle

Marks the tears on my face

The only gift I assume

Is my life . . .

For yet one more day

395 and a Wake Up

hard...a hard pill to swallow
you done it well with class and a pure faith to do what you got to do and get home~~~~

"I curse the truce" -- That line hit like a hard slap, unexpected and all the more powerful because of that simple fact. I'm sure soldiers in our present day war, and in any war for that matter, could relate to such a moment.
