Soul Mate - a poem

So many men have written about their women,

and what might have been, or was, or is...

I see you, a stranger,

                             close to me,

                    your smile, my Universe...

I remember our times together...

We felt Atlantis crumble,

We felt fire in Pompeii,

We wept for the Nazarene,

and Laughed in the Colosseum of Lions -

                       Together!

               I remember, do you?

                          No...

you ride on to your next Appointed Stoplight,

                  and I, Woman,

            write poems about you,

                      and what might have been,

                        or was,

                                      or..will be...

This poem speaks of a truth only a woman who has had this experience could understand. Very well written and clearly defined.

ellen: i had to go back and read this through three times before i think i got it.

i like it. a lot. you're dreaming, alone, of what could/should/will be, while your potential soul mate is oblivious. how poignant, and how true.

thanks for making me dwell on this :-)

Hmm...is there a sense of ennui in this poem? It seduces the reader with the title and then gently leads her down the garden path. This is a lovely and direct piece that gives insight into the heart of a woman.

With these words, you've passionately redefined time and place, heart and soul, togetherness. How beautiful, intelligent, deeply moving.
