A Black Woman
She was beaten and raped,
Disrespected and made to feel inadequate,
She smiled in the face of her oppressor
Raising children along side of hers
Cooking families' meals
Cleaning houses
Refusing to be oppressed in her mind
Always dressed in her Sunday best
Hair done to perfection
The swing in her hip reminding her of femininity
A confident stride
Glimmer shone through her eyes
Lashings given with a powerful tongue
She cries, but not to you or me
Choosing to answer to a higher power
Her mind is at peace
She's a black woman
