Part I
Through the foggy dreams of love and longing,
He watches her move closer to his soul.
Her tantalizing love filled eyes threaten to engulf him.
He reaches out to touch her delicate skin
Only to find that she is not really there.
Only a misty illusion awaits his eager roaming fingers.
But where did she go,
This beauty that had once proclaimed her love?
This sweet angel that filled his heart
With more joy than he thought possible?
Finally through the hazy mist
He realizes the truth, the love,
The need that consumes his very being.
But she is gone.
In the darkness he cries for the one
Who had shown him the glorious light of love;
He mourns for the soul of the tempting joyful angel
Who gave him so much,
And then disappeared into the night without warning.
His heart grows heavy with regret
That he allowed her to slip away;
That he hadn't realized or acknowledged
The truth long ago.
Come back, he pleads through the tears;
Through the fear-filled night.
But deep in his heart he knows she is lost.
Lost to him, to the world, to the heavens.
Falling to his knees he finds himself weak
With misery, dread, longing, need.
And through the dark cloud that slowly
Begins to cover his heart once more
The cloud that she had once chased away
He finds the strength to whisper
The three simple words she had needed to hear.
I love you
Part II
Through the foggy clouds of reality she pauses,
And hesitantly looks back at his lonely form.
His longing, need-filled eyes threaten
To pull her back into his arms.
Quietly and sadly she turns away
And continues to walk down this lonely path,
Silently leaving him with his cold desire.
She had waited patiently
To hear him proclaim his love for her.
Had let herself believe the notion
That someone like he could love her, want her
And need her for more than lustful dreams.
Finally the chilly reality entered her heart
And she realized the truth;
Realized that love would never be between them both.
She knew then that she had to leave.
In the darkness she cries for the one
She had dreamed of for so long.
Anger and contempt at herself fill her very soul
For believing in the lies she had told herself
For giving him her heart, her trust, her life.
Her heart grows heavy with regret
As she slips away into the night,
Wishing she had realized or acknowledged
The truth long ago.
Why couldn’t he say it, she asks through her tears.
But deep in her heart she knows the truth;
She knows that she is only a lust-filled fantasy
To him, to the world.
Falling to her knees she finds herself weak
With misery, dread, longing, love.
And through the dark cloud that slowly
Begins to cover her heart once more
The cloud that her false hopes of his love
Had once chased away
She finds the strength to look back one more time,
And whisper the words he was too afraid to say.
I love you.
