Books by J. Joy Matthews Alford - Sistah Joy
This poem relates to the reader the cathartic power of poetry. It is through such experiences that poets (and others) can come to understand and appreciate very real and necessary stages through which we must all go if we are to successfully deal with pain, grief and personal loss. Whether our pain results from a wrong done to us, or results from the death of a loved one, the cleansing and redemptive power of poetry is not to be denied.
When the words from my mouth
Echo inside my soul
And feelings locked deep inside
Build to a crescendo
When hurt, need and pain
Say it’s time to let go
And my strength tells my spirit
To let the tears flow
This is the special time
That I can find release
For this crystalline moment
Will set my soul free
I thank God for this blessing
And His mercy too
That He gave me, not a breakdown,
But a breakthrough!

|Hi Joy,how are you? This is a very heart-touching poem.Poetry is a powerful tool to release any anger, pain or any other feeling we have inside of our bodies.Like I told a friend of mine, poetry is like doing yoga.Instead of stretching our bodies,we stretch our minds and hearts which is release from the pens in our hands to the page of a book or on a piece of paper.God Bless Poetry and God bless you too.take care of yourself
