Your words are sharp… like glass
They shred my vision of you…
Shards of jagged glass…
Spew from your lips…
Aimed directly at my soul…
Flinching at every word that hits…
Each word cutting deeper than the one before…
What you said to me today…
Cut deeper than any wound…
Taking a stab at my being a mother…
Like you would ever know..
What its like to be a single parent..
And how hard it is..
And how hard I struggled…
For 7 years…
You would never understand..
And you never will and that’s ok..
Because I know who I am
And who I have become
Because of what Ive lived through
Then came you.. a vision of perfect..
This perfect vision of you..
That my mind has created..
Becomes blurry with each glass word..

|You are so right, Sara. Words can be so powerful and they can soothe and heal while, on the other hand, depending on the intent of the speaker, they can wreak havoc and destruction. In one of my poems (with the identical theme as yours here) I referred to words as "sharpnel." Thank you for sharing. Love and best wishes,
