Today, my bubble has been pierced;
The hard shell bubble
That we build around ourselves,
To isolate us, to protect us, to separate us
I have worked hard on mine;
Tick walls that cannot be penetrated,
Built of hurt and hatred that I suffered
at the hand of others….
Today, an e-mail came from nowhere,
And flashed on my computer screen:
“Blast from the past!”
With two pictures attached-7th grade classmates.
From across the time span, and across miles,
My young face, unmarred by world's harshness,
Smiled openly back at me.
“Do you recall me?”
An open smile pierced my hard bubble today;
And the innocence of youth,
The warmth of true friendship, touched my heart again.
