Spring Fever

Spring Fever

I think I’ve got Spring fever
I don’t know what else it can be
I mope around as if I have nothing to do
Gazing outside at my old oak tree.

I’ve lost all interest in household chores
My work habits have hit a lazy decline
The television offers no support at all
Nor my recliner as it groans beneath my behin’.

I take too many naps during the day
Put off doing the things I should do
I stare out of the window pane at nature
At a gorgeous sky so bright and blue.

I think of seashores and ocean waves
Of sandy beaches warm beneath my feet
Of vendors selling Cokes and hotdogs
To give my stomach a satisfying treat.

Yes, I think I’ve got Spring fever
I’m drawn to the great outdoor scenes
I want to lull around in its magnificent beauty
Soaking up the sun in my favorite old jeans.

I want to feel the sun against my face
Feel the breeze blowing through my hair
Hear the birds, squirrels and bees
Celebrating their spring-time fair.

How can it be that I've visited this AD page before but haven't paused to post a comment?

Spring Fever? Perhaps, my dear Jeanette. But I also know that if anyone loves the outdoors and Nature, it's you. I think rather than the laziness of Spring Fever, you're more apt to be burning with desire to get out for an early morning walk followed by a few hours of pleasant activity raking leaves as you feel the warm sun against your face, grateful for God's gift of life and a magical world.

As for me, I'm ever so grateful to know you as a fellow writer and a wonderful friend that is always supportive and encouraging of my efforts to participate in life by sharing my poetry and other musings of the soul. Dear Friend, you light up my life!

Jeanette,

I just love everything about this poem. It's such a happy piece, and the accompanying picture is so peaceful. I want to be where you want to be in the poem, and I want to be in the scene pictured. And I want to be all these place at the same time. I read your bio. I, too, taught fifth grade for seventeen years, and then I moved to middle school to finish out my teaching career. I've been retired for ten years now. After reading several of your poems, I've come to the conclusion that you enjoy writing. Take care, and keep up the good work. I'm going to have to check in on you again sometime soon.

I just read this aloud for my hubby and we laughed because he'd just been gazing out the door longingly. Perfect timing for me to come across this poem. Nicely done, Jeanette!
