Turn Away Gently

Dedicated to Shirley and Viella Weeks
December 3, 2009
To a daughter from her mother, on dying.

My precious, precious child . . .

It's time I turn away gently
your profoundly loving eyes.
My earthly sight is fading
and I cannot leave you, otherwise.

It's time I stop responding
to the touch of your gentle hands.
My skin is worn of wearing;
as I let go, please understand.

I am called to fade from hearing
the sounds of your soothing voice.
I would simply take you with me,
were that not a selfish coice.

But, you have a beautiful family
and some more here, yet, to do.
I will gladly wait my turn
to spend more time with you.

While my heart is forever with you,
this ticker is old and tired.
The human heart cannot contain
the love that you inspire.

So, fear not for our connection,
as beyond these senses, five
are myriads of dimensions
to keep "us" vitalized.

Your dad and I will be close at hand--
a mere shout or a prayer away,
and have no doubt that we will greet you
as you cross the veil, one day.

Now, with my transition fast approaching,
on Life's mystery we'll rely,
as, with courage, you turn away gently
while I slip sweetly away . . . and fly!

Much power in these lines of sadness, of letting go ... but sometimes it's so damn hard, ya know? Beautifully penned.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.
