Greed,
More than deadly sin alone,
Is pestilence of the soul,
Achingly depriving all else,
For greed abides with no good thing.
Greed denies vision,
For in its opacity,
It blocks all but itself:
A self-indulgent ravenous plague,
Seeking peers in sinister conspiracy,
Evil sneers glancing right and left,
And always to the rear.
Greed is the mother of rationalization,
As it thirsts for uncluttered justification,
But greed is not neat and tidy;
Rather, a malignancy of the soul
That knows not a thing,
Lest they be the lies that it tells.
Greed, when fully-grown
Becomes paranoid,
For evil recognizes only itself,
Expects behavior like unto itself,
And all else is but prey,
For greed is never sated.
For some, in life’s final review,
It is greed which will stand alone,
So consuming is she,
There is no room for another:
Sadly, no goodness has survived,
Only lost opportunity,
As greed undeniably lives on.

Greed is the mother of rationalization,
As it thirsts for uncluttered justification,
Two very poignant lines. I like your poem and your writing style. Thanks for a memorable poem.
