A poem written eight years ago, used at Mama's funeral 12/24/2010...RIP, Mama! I love you and will miss you always!

A tribute to the sweetest Mama in the world, Thelma Hicks Mullis,
who has taught me how to grow old gracefully! RIP Mama!
We will miss you greatly and love you just the same!
7/24/1914--12/22/2010

MY MAMA

Her sister, Irene, had six girls and a boy,
And all of them brought to Mama much joy-
Although she had none of her own it seemed
To hold her own little one was her dream!

One day she and daddy received an ad
Of a child in need of a mom and dad-
Though this little girl was eighteen months old,
She was still small enough to hug and hold!

Adoption became their ultimate choice,
At last they would have a wee little voice
Calling them ‘Mama and Diddy’ each day,
Bringing fulfillment of family their way!

Mama’s dream had come true , she had her own
Little one to teach until she was grown-
About love and life and how to trust God,
That fam’ly was there wherever she trod!

It’s been fifty years and Mama still knows
This ‘baby’ of hers has strived to bestow
Upon her and daddy the love they shared,
And show ‘til the end just how much she cared!
