On My Birthday
I’m getting old, and I know it’s true
Cause numbers don’t lie, and neither do you.
My gait is unsteady, my brain is like mush
And whenever I pee, there’s never a gush.
But…I am 73 going on 74
I’ll tell you why that’s so nice
Eager young girls with flowing young curls
Still offer me lots of spice…Not!
Still…I am 73 going on 74
The whole world is now my stage
I can be brave and I can be strong
I don’t have to act my age.
Cause…I am 73 going on 74
And life is all about me
I know it’s true cause lookin’ at you
Reminds me of what not to be.
Yes…I am 73 going on 74
Now here’s what it’s all about ~
Lift up your chin and strike up the band!
The lights all too soon will go out.

| Very nice. Each section stands on its own yet they combine into a nice story. |

This isn't what I meant about numerical structure. I was thinking about acrostics and other poetic structures that are more numerical than literal.
You give a number of good reasons for aging gracefully. I, however, still find young chicks attracted to me, if only in a fatherly way. The older chicks get a little more romantic.

Edward, great job. My first belly buster of the day. Also my first time reading your work. I’ll be back and I'll be checking out your other works. I'm 66 peeking at 67 and hoping to retain my wits, sense of humor and health for another 10 years or so. Your poem gives me hope.
Thanks Dick |
