Returning as Rivers

Returning as rivers

After night-time thunder,

Rain washes forested hills,

Into streams ever-flowing the torrent spills

Your ashes tossed into the tumbling current,

Returning to rivers that sweep to the sea

Washing Earth, your soul now swept beyond me

All gathers in streams that flow,

Ebbing like Oceans of Life,

Particles of you & I, some settling on farther shores,

[All vanishing, rising to Father-Sky]

To be reborn as clouds over distant hills,

Memories of you, of us as we were

Forever changed, falling gently
Like future rain washing

Into streams that forever spill,

Out of the Cradle, Endlessly rocking

To waiting seas,
Returning as rivers…

I am reminded of “ashes to ashes, dust to dust.” The rivers of our life do flow downstream in an endless cycle of birth and death. Good to see you writing poetry again–perhaps lyrics for you next song.

This is magnificent, how life and relationships move and change.
I love the poem, Michael, and your wilderness setting. It is both tragic and spectacular.
