Crossin' the Jordan

I wrote this a while back on concluding my 'word for word' reading of the 'Torah' (first 5 books of the old Testament) and then just beginning the Book of Joshua. A book that could make a good mini-series complete with special effect, and horrifying violence.
But my take on it, necessary when you are writing a novel series on Ancient History (The Golden Flute, books 1-3), is reflected in this song (singing it around acapella these days). IF you think you know your history and the roots of western culture in the Judaic-Christian heritage, i beg to differ. You need to read the Bible word for word in order and not pick it apart to support your religious dogma. Curious happenings (addressed in my novel) thrown way out of perspective by Time, ignorance and bigotry. Then read your ancient Sumerian "myths"and other historical works (likely carved in stone) No, history didn't start with the Jews!

As for the Picture(!) Well, my sense of humor. I was looking for a desert photo, perhaps mideast and came across this shot from our western desert. But I like the perspective on the permanence of civilizations. (yes, plural) And for my mind, this is exactly what I hope becomes of our fossil-fuel driven technology.

WE CAN DO BETTER. We are not much advanced compared to the very people that built the BC civilizations. Many of those lasted millennium. Will we?

Crossing the Jordan (3.211)

[Based on Deuteronomy & the Book of Joshua in the Old Testament]

{refrain 1}

We are crossing the Jordan... crossin' the Jordan,
On dry land, we are crossing the Jordan,
Where the waters ran backwards one way
    And stood still the other... (We are crossin'..../.)

"Give us the strength to stand fast
    And keep your Law,
Strengthen our Faith to answer Your Call."
    (We are crossing' the Jordan, ./. etc...)

You would be God of all; you descended to
    shore up man, who after his fall was seeking gods
    in the fallen 'fathers of men' -
These 'sons of God,' fallen themselves were warring &
Playing games with their 'Adam' - we their servants then.

You would put an end to it and chose an enslaved people
to lead to freedom, and inherit a land rich in abundance,
promised to their fathers.
Undeserving, unfaithful man,  would not, could not
stay the fulfilling promise of a true God (He said)

We’re standing on the eastern shore
Looking westward, a land green with promise,
And we’re... crossin' the Jordan...

{refrain 2}
I will be crossin' the Jordan, crossing the Jordan,
In tatters and rags, I am crossing the Jordan.
Torn up and worn, we’ll be crossin' the Jordan
40 years on... I am crossing the Jordan,
In tatters and rags, worn up and torn, 40 years on
but I’m finally Crossin' the Jordan.

You need to read the Bible word for word in order and not pick it apart to support your religious dogma.

That would probably be quite enlightening for many. And that is quite a picture.
