I toss my trusty cane into the sea,
drop to my knees and roll in the surf,
flop in the sand and read again with envy
these nostalgic lines from D.H Lawence:
The waning moon looks upward, this grey night
Sheers round the heavens in one smooth curve
Of easy sailing. Odd red wicks serve
To show where the ships at sea move out of sight.
I manage to stand on ungainly legs,
confront the wind, wrapped in my purple mantilla,
and in a state of abulia, foregoing the will
to seek shelter in the scrabbled dunes,
ululate with the gulls.

... and from the crazy, topsy-turvy windswept beaches of my Dorset shores, you will hear my eager yodelling refrain, dear Gene! How I long for those ululating days when the winds are so fierce the sound is pretty much stopped in your mouth and yet you feel the adrenalin rush of the wild scream of ecstasy or relief. Bits of DH have this effect on me as well... gotta love his odd red wicks!! :)) xx

The poet confronting the elements (life) with the bravado of youth, and the wisdom of experience, though challenged with an aging body. Your lament was heard by the trusty gulls. We all face a similar frustrations to one degree or another. Only the wiley and crafty poet knows the secret to victory. And at poet's end, he'll write again. Gene, this is a colorful expression filled with metaphors and superb writing my dear friend. I am entertained by your masterful rendering. I hope you are preparing another for sharing with us. I bid you love and pace.Jon Michael
