This is the poem I chose to recite upon being invited by the Delaware County Health Department to participate in National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day in Muncie IN Feb 7, 2012.

My Dearest Friend:

How would YOU treat me…if I told you I have HIV

Would you Tweet about me, invite me to events in your community?
Would you turn around the corner in the grocery aisle if you happened to see me?

How YOU treat me…if I told you I have HIV?

Would you see me as a threat, or someone that you wish you’d never met?

Would you talk about my family, wondering if we share the same auto-immune anomaly?

What about if I asked you to attend a charity, whose purpose was for helping people
infected with HIV…just like me?

Would you even invite me over for coffee or for tea, could I bake cookies with your children whom you always say truly adore me & my quirky form of childlike comedy?

and by the way... before you turn away in dismay,
My Dearest Friend?

Would you even find the time to hold my hands and pray to Yahuwah Almighty with me?
Just how would YOU treat ME…if I told you I have HIV…

Well, may as well know … I’m positive… that I would never treat YOU differently. And because I do not have HIV, the way the world is nowadays, there really is no guarantee.

So walk with me…speak with me…travel with me…party with me… share with me…dare with me…to tell the world the truth about AIDS and HIV.
