The futility of our lives. Our putrid mediocrity.

We haul our carcasses

Through the passage of time,

Surviving only on hope,

Antidepressants and wine,

Emotion beaten and rejected

Out of our lonely, tired souls

Weary bodies, wary faces

Going through the motions;

No judgement, no emotion,

These are both confused with sight

In a diseased and twisted mind

Convinced that everything’s alright

It’s a fantastic delusion:

There is no refuge from fear,

Like energy it alters

But will never disappear

If we could only open our hearts

And burst those dams of passion,

Be free from this jaded existence,

This repulsive, comfortable fashion

But in this inferno that is life

We require shelter to survive,

Locked in erroneous, corporeal strife,

We are the victims of time and space,

So we act on instinct, not on knowledge

And must run for cover anywhere,

To keep dry from society’s storm

In a world that doesn’t care
