Green Velvet
Early morning tree filtered
sunlight stippled
green velvet meandering lawn
bisected by miles long
crooked running
minimally rolling
concrete walkway.
Coming off my rear patio
this sunlight stippled
early morning
finds Kody and me
walking the rolling lawn
appearing to my eye
as green velvet.
Early morning energy,
chasing a number of seed hunting black birds
Kody then bounds after a teasing, chattering squirrel.
Peacefully now,
Kody and I walk the early morning
tree filtered
sunlight stippled
green velvet lined walkway
of where my home is situated
and, though not the religious type,
each morning the beauty of this place,
this place that I have the great fortune
of living causes my mind to wonder
of the great fortune that brought me
to this place of such beauty,
to this place of sunlight stippled
early morning meandering solitude.
Running up the slight,
vine covered embankment,
disappearing behind a stand of tall standing bushes
it takes but a minute for Kody to run back
because,
smart dog has me so trained,
that for his running and hiding a treat is tossed
into his waiting mouth.
On we go,
my friend Kody and me
to walk the green velvet rolling lawn
and though not the religious type,
I thank God for bringing me to this place
of solitude,
to this place of meandering early morning
tree filtered,
sunlight stippled green velvet,
to this place of beauty I am fortunate to
call home.
