In a San Diego songwriters' contest, Richard provides offbeat lyrics to composer/vocalist Jim Wright
Radio station KPRI FM in San Diego again has proposed a song title to the
San Diego Songwriters Meetup, the job of its members to write the lyrics
and melody to match. Of an expected 40 entrants, the winner's performance
will be re-recorded in a professional sound studio and later broadcast
in the station's Sunday evening "Homegrown Hour."
The proposed title is "Hand Made." Accordingly, I wrote the lyrics for my
offbeat ballad in mid-May, 2012 and forwarded them on to Jim Wright
of San Diego County, who's the same singer who provided the melody
and vocal for my other AD posts (Poetry) songs, such as "Every Second."
Today, Jim forwarded to me the melody/vocal soundtrack, which I've included
below. (We're just grown-up boys having fun. Hope you enjoy it.)
Hand Made
Melody & Vocal: Jim Wright
Lyrics: Richard Lee Orey
There was a time I bought you flowers Pink roses made you flip But now that we're much older I buy you Polygrip I remember how it started On that robot production line You got the yellow eyeballs Maroon for me was fine
They tested our mobility Could we function as a pair? They oiled and measured every part Even in our underwear They laid us out side by side In the sun and in the shade Tested every moving part To see if we obeyed
Years have come and years have gone
Toiling in the sun and shade
Moving parts still working well
'Cause everything's hand made
Working well
'Cause everything's hand made
We passed the tests and got assigned As nannies for a hip-hop band I cherished you and bought you gifts From a nearby flower stand
We shared loving times together
In walks along the beach
Careful not to catch a wave
'Cause rust is in its reach
Both of us are faithful Of that none can refute We hold hands and see their smiles "O, look dear, aren't they cute?" But now that we are older Some things tend to slip That's why I don't buy you flowers I buy you Polygrip.
Years have come and years have gone Toiling in the sun and shade Moving parts still working well 'Cause everything's hand made Working well 'Cause everything's hand made
Working well
'Cause everything's hand made
Working well
'Cause everything's hand made

Richard, I love it! This is great satire and humor. Creating a poetry/song to a theme someone else thought up is not easy; therefore, I congratulate you on the terrific job you did.
