A Memoir
Leaning back on my elbows, I let the easterly wind comb through my hair while lying in the warm sand
The freshness of the lake awakens me from my dream
Slowly I open my eyes to smell your sweet fragrance upon the wind
As a momentary sadness overcomes me of a memory, then I gleam
My heart yearns for those lost moments, with the eagerness of summer’s arrival
Recalling our walk through the forest of time, seeing all its beauty
You picked a wee flower and handed it to me and I drank in its essence
How you held me in your arms as we viewed the crescent moon, while cool winds surrounded us
Like youth we giggled at simple things, for it can be so simple
You stood before the great tree of knowledge and I snapped your picture
You put your arm around me as we walked in nature’s treasures
We delighted in the sweetness of wild apples we plucked from the trees
We danced in the dance hall of years gone by, to our own music
The music of love as you held me in your arms
A tear fell from my soul as I knew the time drew near
For time passes so swiftly, but your essence remains within me
I pull your handkerchief from my pocket
Close my eyes, drawing in the aroma and you are here
