There are few answers, but many questions waiting to be asked.

On Deaf Ears

Low of the low
Finds the modest ant
Seemingly going nowhere
Knows of what it needs
Atop a stone
Down an avenue of termite abandonment
Missing opportunity an unknown

High above
Sparrow wings flutter
Riding updrafts of nature's preserve
Darting eyes seeking
Beneath sun drenched oak limbs
Perhaps a snack
A feast

Struggling
Middle prone man
Continues ill at ease
Needing to redefine
Feet for something besides walking
Hands for what was once suited for tooling survival
Hearts for...

A few
Dare to seek answers in Marianas Trench
Prepare civilian exploration in space
Conquer the uncomfortable
Knowing the lessons about to be learned
Transcend the joys of couch-potato-mindset
Botoxable reality
And Mansome importance

Even fewer
Banish such tangible realms
Choosing instead
Personal capsules of discovery
Where by chance
The observation of an ant's strength
Or the darting quickness of the sparrow survival
Reveals connection of the evasive dots
Delivering epiphanies
Most likely passé
To those
And that
Which our hubris lords over

Might we need to recall
Reality's little secrets ala Kurtz
"The horror... the horror"

Is anyone listening?

Once again, you have reminded me of David Thoreau's observation of ants and how they related to his neighbors and his country. Today, we are even more removed from survival. Your poem hold so many truths about how a few, brave and adventurous, seek out the roots of our survival and keep it alive. The rest just rot on their couches, observing. A thoughtful piece that we should all pay attention to.

Naw, we're not listening, Odin, except the few, the inquisitive, the questioners. We, then, are much like the ants, conditioned and compromised by our very own DNA genetic code. Unlike the ants whose seemingly erratic running around is actually very constructive. Everything the ant does is to embody the anthill and the fat queen who lives there.
