My class has just done a unit on the Holocaust and this poem reflects the mood at Auschwitz, one of the concentration camps in poland. |

Evangeline,
it is to bad that the human species history gives you these facts to learn, nicely written.

I have read poems of Vietnamese prisoners held by their own people in the North. These poems are as sparse as the scraps of paper they are written on and a few grains of rice picked from the floor spilled by their laughing tormentors. They focused on food.
I can picture the Jewish prisoners in the camps writing as sparsely from their lack of strength and nourishment to even think grander thoughts.

| There sure wasn't many survivors, Evangeline. I'm happy your school is bringing that up. We should never forget the evil that was done on those terrible years called World War II. |
