Gene, my other BESTEST friend...

Another for Friendship Week...

That would be Gene on the left when we both were much younger...

We came together when we both needed the other,

Approximately 28 years we’ve been close,

He was unlucky enough to get to meet my mother,

Just as Chuck is, he is another part of my family,

We’ve been through some truly wonderful times,

Some bad, some good, but never did I say to Gene, adios…

A dearer friend is hard to find,

Even Rufuz loved him, you know then he is kind,

Always has he told me of my shortcomings,

Never though did he hurt me in anyway,

As well, he realized his own, no way is Gene blind…

If I was to get married, I would have two best men,

I think rarely does he read what I have put to paper with pen,

Hope he reads this one though,

He knows me well enough to understand my belief in Karma & Zen,

He helps me to be happy, his humor nothing short of the best,

I hope I never lose him; I would hate to at his funeral say amen...

To have such friends is indeed a blessing. As I started going to sea when I was really young I left behind most of my friends in school and the ones I made on ship were all older and most are now deceased.

I know that feeling, Ed. A true friend is the greatest gift we can have in life. This one actually made me a bit misty eyed, instead of the usual grin I get when I come to your Den.
Take care,
Sherry
