Art "Day Dreamers" By Jonnie Kostoff

Beneath River Birches
By La Belle Rouge

In sunny Summer by the deep river
where white-bark birches grow
taking pleasure in happy afternoons
where twin blue waterfalls flow

Sister Eagle glides high above us
while butterflies whisper of love
we listen to rushing of the river
and rejoice in the song of a dove

In the Summer our hearts are light
tall mountains wear a cloak of green
together on the mossy river shore
where by others we are not seen

Long hair shines black as the raven
bare skin as bronze as the clay
we embrace beneath the birches
until night has chased away day

And when warmth of Summer is over
in our lodge we will sit by the fire
remembering the song of doves
and the heat of our summer desire

Such delicate poise and balance to this divine write, Belle, and it plays upon the heart and mind as the dappled light upon the pale moss and bark of those dazzling birches. Very much like the contrast of the earthy, full-blooded raven-black hair and bronze skin as a complement. It leaves a satisfying and enduring sentiment and image. xx

...puts one in the native element... a vestigial vision, rare and radiant... love the music and the imagery... oh for those warm summer nights beneath the birches by the river, with the fire crackling and the lap of the current over the pebbles by the shore... this poem takes us there! Wonderful!

a pretty piece indeed, Poetess...

Simply enchanting. That scene must've played out millions of times before a single European step foot on the continent and ruined an idyllic lifestyle forever. I'm reminded of Man in the Wilderness, where Richard Harris is abandoned for dead and survives. Anyway, he is in the deep forest when a warrior brings his a woman who has childbirth in front of Richard Harris's eyes while spring snow still lies on the forest floor. Nine months after that summertime tryst, a child is born in March or April. It was one of the most moving movie scenes I've ever experienced.

Belle, you always seem to blend your words so majestically with the music and the photo you select.

Very NICE on all counts. Dick
