She eases herself across this public stage.
A private nature walk begins -
sensible shoes, earth-friendly clothing,
white hair free to the air, clear eyes - scanning.
Cradled near her heart - a precious bouquet
of solitary musings on the soft, rough truths of nature:
leaf after leaf - succinct images of elusive essence
to fill our senses.
A simple love begins our engagement with mystery,
gratitude, sorrow, gentle humor, unfathomed worth;
captivates us an hour in her telling of
Blackwater Pond devotion.
Circling back to deepest joy -
a reminiscence of beloved Percy -
inviting love, giving love;
we know the journey is complete.
Kindly, she says:
“I have read my poems,
I have answered your questions,
I’m leaving now.”
Accepted into her arms, our floral bouquet -
speckled with tears of delight. She floats gentle kisses
into lush air to join perfect petals of verse
sprinkled at our feet.
