' ... remember the cost and those who bore it without complaint. ...'

Image © 2011, Karla Dorman

There were those who paid the
ultimate price for our freedom.
Theirs was taken away, ours
lives on.  We must remember
the cost and those who bore
it without complaint.  What
greater sacrifice?

Please.  Give honor where
honor is due.  Show some
respect.  Not just on certain
days of the year or when
convenient:  soldiers don't
stop dying because it's
a holiday.

We who came home are
grateful we made it back,
but we miss our brothers
and sisters who didn't.  We
sometimes live with the
pain and memories, but
we're proud we served.

We don't ask you to like
us.  All we want is a
'thank you.'  A ' Welcome
Home.'  A hug.  A visit.
We get lonely.  That's
not asking for too much,
is it?

...sorry I missed this till now, Karla, as I've been without power, but now that I see it and have read it to the theme of Star Wars I think it would be great to put it to that music...

Not much at all. When they open up, veterans can teach us a lot. I make it a point to listen. I'm looking forward to the day we don't have to send young people off to war to settle old men's fights. Thanks for reminding us.

Many of us say thank you by living in the freedom you speak of :-) and yes I am grateful everyday for that freedom and whenever the opportunity arises I thank a soldier. Wonderful reminder.

No it isn't, Karla! I thank YOU for YOUR service, and I will never forget or take it for granted! God bless you and SALUTE to not only you, but ALL who serve(d)! Very well penned; brava!

(((HUGS))) and much love, your (grateful) twin, Karen Lynn. :)

Karla,
A strong sentiment about a very intense topic. Many will ponder your statement because of what you wrote.
