It's heartbreaking. We've never seen so many downtrodden and homeless down here in SD before...

artwork entitled: 'Stanley McCrystal' by Deanna Leamon

Gangly man
With head in hand
Accepts his fate
As reprobate
Accepts the sneers
Of passerbyís
Who see a life
In shambles

Gangly man
With thoughts awry
Endures unschooled
A sorry fool
His tapestry
Of barren threads
Reveals a face
Drawn haggard

Gangly man
Once was adored
His fatherís heart
A mighty sword
His motherís love
Gave him the strength
To forge ahead
Of heartbreak

Gangly man
Oh gangly man
What happened to
The dreams you had
What happened to
The hope once shared
When you were young
And eager

Gangly man
He smeared the slate
And waves the flag
Of common fate
Plays saddened notes
That ring untrue
A broken man
Left yearning

Gangly man
Oh gangly man
Thereís nothing left
For you to plan
A dream gone wrong
An unsung song
Is how your lifeís

A powerful capture and sad indictment of the economic plunder we have all become in our relentlesslesly merciless and mercenary material world. Your verses stand strong and their voicing and sentiment is clarion, Richard. Your short-line form packs a powerful punch. xx

This is poetry I love - beautifully meter and rhyme, superbly focused images and impressions and feelings. I like the artwork too. Impressive work. Thank you.

Richard ~
A broken man this gangly troden soul. To lift him up
in from despair. Sadness is a somber plane. Your expressive
poem is "gangly man" or' dreams slashed from his face.
Extraordinary write of human suffering Richard.

And thus it might be argued go all men who trust the outer-world's dreams and promises. Arguably, there is far more to be trusted in one's inner-world, should personal honesty remain preserved. For me, the subtext rang loud and clear: Oh, gangly man, oh gangly man... "your life's remembered" so different by those out there, than by the quiet entity within.
