It came to mind; I look around, a dozen poison cans I found,
The most precious honey bee, had built its nest upon their tree,
With epi pen and fear of life, they ran and caused the bees much strife.
I multiply this scene, for all we spray and poison so,
To all that lives we are so mean, how could we sink so low,
A zillion agents poison strong, that poison wolf, and fish, and all,
Soon the time will come, the time, we too will fall.

I did not, for I know, you know, from oil, to gas, to mountain top mining, the razing of forests and on and on, much too soon we’ll ask, where oh where, has life now gone, ours included.

No one but me, still it is all around,
Still the wind upon the tree,
No one can be found,
Not a bird or bee,

Is this the day of orange mists,
The light of sun of early morn,
Joy, if sleepy eyes it kissed,
A new day it is born,

Or is it, quiet before the storm,
The orange mist, is not the suns,
But a mist, that floats forlorn,
Now still, among the bombs and guns,

Where is all, of which I loved?
The life that woke at dawn,
The flight of bumblebees so soft,
Where has it now all gone?

Weep the grasses and the trees,
The little mouse had built its nest,
Where are the titmouse and the bees?
My early sleepy eyes caressed,

Orange is the light now black,
What hell on earth did we create?
When Mother Earth we did attack,
I ask, what God did we relate?©03/09/2012

Your words remind me once again of Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring." Truly a most apt and timely sharing, Jasmin. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

We certainly do seem to have a habit of attacking things. I have a feeling the day is coming when we are the ones attacked, maybe by some unstoppable virus that just lays us to waste. It would be interesting to be among the last handful living, just to see if we paused to consider the possibility that we deserved it. Probably not, would be my guess.

My late husband experienced this horror in Viet Nam, he was in Phu Bai when going to sleep one night all was green, they awoke to black sludge. It killed him in 1995 while the cancer of it grew in his body.

Excellent poetry of the horrors brought upon mankind Jasmin and nature.

you're not afraid to face these topics head on..
your courage is outstanding!

Reminds me of when Goldwater announced that we would, “defoliate them.” It is still happening. The powerline right-of-way behind my house was given a good dose of herbicide last year that killed everything the drought didn't. Fortunately, with the rain we got, some alien grass, 8 foot tall, grew in one month, replacing the great variety of fauna and flora that had been growing for several years, including trees.

Also reminds me of my story, Last Man Standing. A poem we should all take heed of.

Nice job - I see we've finally sent in a 'team' to deal with Agent Orange and all of its horrors - probably only because we want to reestablish a naval base near Hainan ... as for the god we represented, its name was Empire.

A zillion agents poison strong, that poison wolf, and fish, and all,
Soon the time will come, the time, we too will fall.

It will be sooner than many think since our efforts to eradicate everything around us or in our way, is now escalating every day.
