My favorite musician or composer is Burt Bacharach and appropriately enough, there were times in my life where a lot of his music is intertwined with chapters of my life, especially my youth. That includes my lost loves, as well as other special women in my life. This is also partly in memory of Mr. Bachrach's lyricist, Hal David, who died over the weekend.

Burt, Hal, Dionne

and anyone else who

performed your music through

the 1980s-

Two words for those fatter royalty checks:

You're welcome.

And thank you for the soundtrack

which saw me through a hapless life.

And for being there  when my heart was breaking.

You see this guy?

I wish I would have played

that song.

That's how it was in February, but August?

Just the odds and ends of a beautiful affair.

Why did birds suddenly appear

Every time she was near?

One year, close to you,

the next in different home rooms

What's it all about, high school?

The last of the happy love songs.

You'll never get to heaven

(tell it to the banker),

Always something there to remind me

(travelogues at the Shrine?).

there was one of those girls

the Blue Seas music men

could never put in my mind

the look?

Her grin turned me on,

but she was too innocent,

A Girl Scout.

Someone else wrote a song

about her since  I knew her with

those sand and shovels.

"L" is for the way

you look at me,

Sorry, wrong Burt.

I was in California when I very well knew "… The way to San Jose." But I can see that you related to Bert and Hal's songs far more than I. I was shaped more by Simon and Garfunkel with their "I Am a Rock" and "Sounds of Silence." Also by everything by the Beatles and especially, "Hey Jude," because the way I tried to reach out to my sister Judy. And finally, the whole rock 'n roll revolution and the psychedelic rock that I immerse myself in, in that milieu that the Eagles called "Hotel California."
