Response to Felix's Halloween challenge. I used to do requested sketches to be transferred onto monuments at a funeral home after my regular job in the evenings sometimes until the wee hours with a "stiff" layed out in the next room. Talk about an eerie feeling! Hey! I needed the money and my artwork for them paid well. One gets a "strange" sense of humor with a job like this. Don't take me wrong. I do have all reverence for the dead.

The funeral was the next day
Viewing been done as she did lay
Cold in her casket there to see
Proof she was dead that as it be

It seemed that I had been forgot
Director gone the doors were locked
The room just as a vault secure
Panicked was I you must be sure

While sitting in the dim lit room
The flowers reeked of stale perfume
She in her casket lying there
With eyes wide open tangled hair

This is not how I saw her last
Make up applied eyes closed at last
The funeral director saw
That she be viewed at peace with awe

Then it did seem she turned her head
She seemed alive I stared in dread
As those cold eyes looked straight at me
Tremb'ling I knew they could not see

I know I saw her breathe a breath
Although this can't be done in death
But breathe and then a moan did come
Starting my heart beat like a drum

The next I knew was a bright light
The nurse said I passed out that night
Relieved was I when I had found
That she'd been buried in the ground

What hellish hap'ning was all this
Was it a dream? Something's amiss
What I remember fades as I
Watched that damned corpse which would not die

So that's why you act so crazy! No wonder after witnessing something like that! You ought to get a medal.

Egad lol fantastic imagination this is for sure
and the mind being what it is thanks to Hollywood
can spark that imagination

Great tale you told with a note saying you have
drawn for such souls who have passed on to the
other side
