Scary imaginations at bedtime used to keep me up as a child.........even today at times!

When you lie in your bed at night
Trying to fall asleep
After you say your prayers asking
The Lord your soul to keep

Do you hear footsteps in the hall
Outside your bedroom door
Did something seem to run across
Your toys left on the floor

What was that sound that you just heard
From right across the room
It's in the closet but you can't
See through the dim lit gloom

You want to get up from your bed
Turn on the light to see
But you are frozen from the fright
Of just what it might be

You pull the covers o'er your head
But still you take a peek
You hear the doorknob move as you
Hear floor boards start to creak

Slowly your door opens and then
A figure does appear
Relieved you hear your mother's voice
Are you O.K. my dear

Both Mothers and Fathers have a way of setting everything right. One time my mother was in a fanciful mood, inviting the boogey man to come out and talk with her. She was told that he was not trying to scare me, but just trying to stay warm on a cold winter evening. That did it for me, no more scary bumps in the night to frighten me ever again. This is a great poem for the big night coming up soon. I thoroughly enjoyed it... and it brought back to me some wonderful memories about Halloween and my friends!

I was going to say something about kids who are fraidy cats. But then, I was slayed by that last line––precious!

Yes childhood imagination may not be imagination :)
Remember children are more open than adults until
adults close the mind of the child...

I often have friends visit me in the night :)
I'm used to it lol

Lovely write Jane as always you do very well
never fear the friendly who are drawn to you
there are reasons :)

Naw, I never had those dark room fears, my mother was my demon and if she opened the door I was in trouble of some kind. You're on a roll with the Halloween poems though. Good luck on your book.
