I promised myself I’d do better,
Call a friend or send a letter.
But I feel I failed again,
No longer wanting to pretend.
I promised myself to work on me,
For only I can make me be
The person I hope to see someday.
Healthy and happy, come what may.
All the times I promise myself
I can do better, take it off the shelf.
Dust it, shine it, follow through;
Dreams can happen if you pursue.
What does all this mean to you?
Who cares what I say or hope to do?
It is I that suffers when I break
The actions I promised myself to take.
If all our promises we could keep,
What havoc we could reap.
The problems of this world could dwindle,
No more lies, no more swindle.
