I, Frida

I, Frida

Your brush stroked images
of self love
on thick canvas
Images of painted wombs
and earthen fruit
Mujer
Chicana
Chola
Hermana
Your passion was like
sweet sangria
intoxicating onlookers
Mujer
Chicana
Chola
Hermana
You smashed your fist
through tragedy
with pomegranate rage
Mixed colors with life
and you are still on fire
Mujer
Chicana
Chola
Hermana
Remember
I,Frida.

This poem is dedicated to the famous painter,Frida Khalo. She overcame a horrific accident in her life. I have much respect for her dedication to art.
