Calamity though fervent prayers abound,

Unaccountable to doctrine once too sound,

To ever vex a zealous search for truth,

Or immolate the inner peace of youth.

Supplications of Thy issue elevate,

Attempts, Thy tender mercies to awake,

Obsessions theft of dreams, the cause to find,

Why hidest Thou thyself in troubled times.

Would Thou, who hath the lilies so arrayed,

The heavens and the earth from chaos framed,

The patriarchal covenants forsake,

Indiscriminate disaster liberate?

Might dispensation of divine relief,

Be a measure of recipientís belief?

Petitions of the righteous ever blessed,

Fortuitous good fortune to the rest?

Misadventure unto whom befalls the ill!

Phatic chorus giving credit to Thy will,

But deserving neither honor nor the blame,

For the cause of these events is but the same.

Boundless freedom of my will I charge to Thee,

As the whole of Thy creation is to be.

That God would love with love surpassing manís,

Rest I knowing that Thou doest all Thy can.
