Memories from a lifetime ago
Linger deep in the caverns of my mind,
Battling to escape from
The dark recesses they’re buried in.
Pains, for years, successfully suppressed,
Climb to the top of the abyss
They were pushed into
When they became too much to bear.
My heart cries out to a shadowy figure,
That has no place in reality today,
Stay where you are,
I don’t want to deal with you.
The pain is too great.
Our family was torn apart,
Mercilessly ripped to shreds
For reasons I could not understand.
Abuse and violence were heaped
Upon young lives that should
Never have had to endure such things,
Leaving wounds so deep that
They still fester and boil to
The surface of consciousness,
To ask the unanswerable question,
