A young lady, searching for love in all the wrong places, unburdens herself to an older friend late in the evening in a New York piano bar. Her friend is the piano player. He is so touched that he puts her words into a song. This is a scene from a play by Francis Eaden.

A LADY’S LAMENT (Ginger's Song)
By Francis Eaden
I don’t like my life, or the things that I do,
or what I am going to be.
I want to be something; I’m better than this,
I want to be me!
I don’t like the men that take me to bed,
but finding a lover is rare,
and “using” is the rule, and the name of the game;
I just want someone to care.
I don’t ask much but the touch of love,
to let me know someone is there;
I don’t need much, I just need to know,
that somewhere there’s someone to care.
There’s so much of love, that I don’t understand,
but I want to learn, and I want to burn,
With a lover’s touch on my hand.
Touch my cheek and I’ll dance; my lips and I’ll soar,
through the sky up above.
Make me hear music, and I’ll fly like a dove;
Just reach out and touch me, and let me know love

| That is wonderfully profound. Learn how to refuse sex. That is how to find love. Everyone wants a young woman to smile at everyone else, then they scorn her for not being judicious in her choices. |

| Is there a line missing in the next to last stanza? Unfortunately, all too oten, love doesn't work out the way we want it to do. |
