Dominion (A Sonnet) (Poetry) - 8/20/2009 11:08:21 AM
I have habit of leaving the smaller creatures alone, including spiders around the house, except blackwidows. Makes my wife crazy. I leave the ants alone too, until they get into my cupboards, fridge, and countertops. I liked Dominion. It gives pause for thought. Patrick

Very interesting or maybe coincident...I noticed a baby ant today around my sink and decided not to kill. It was wet, almost dying and I moved it carefully away, let the baby live... by saving the ant I saved myself from getting hurt from the invisable powers above. I am interested in philasophy, also fantasy, scientific futuristic stories and looking forward buying your book. Best wishes, Ankin

I have left positive comments on Professor Ziner's other poetry but, to me, this sonnet is zen-like. I plan to bring Evergreen into my high school English and reading classes this fall. I find a steady message in his work that reflects a genuine empathy for people (and afflicted non-people!). I hope you can find the time to read his book. It's personally felt and experienced and fun to talk about with others.

I found Professor Ziner's book trailer on YouTube and bought Evergreen. This poem puts into perspective why his "incivility" theme is so prominent. VERY powerful imagery and sad at the same time. As a high school English and science teacher, I have learned that biographies often direct what's expressed in words. This is clear in Professor Ziner's work. BTW, if you haven't read Ziner's Evergreen novel, then do so ASAP. I'm still reeling from those final two chapters - and looking forward to his second book in the trilogy.

A true masterpiece! A literary work of art that tells the story that is so, so, true to life events as I even recall them! Brilliant, as I would have expected!!! (So much said in a short poem) :-)

A.S., A resonating truth here. Our callous diregard for those we share this space with can so easily be understood when one ponders the purposeful life. We, being creatures of whimsy, simply don't ponder overmuch anymore - or worse yet - don't care. Looking forward to the odyssey. ~B
