MIRIAM'S LIFE (Short Story) - 7/20/2009 2:47:01 PM
Good little slice of life. I liked the ranking system, with the children (kids might be confusing due to the word also meaning baby goats), then the animals, then the husband. It's very rooted in rural thought. If there was any area I would improve, it would be that Miriam should consider Harold's place on the farm. She might be afraid to upset that delicate balance that so often occurs on a farm, where the husband and sons tend to the outside chores while the wife does cooking, cleaning, and (in older years) butter churning, soap making, etc. I wasn't raised on a farm, but went to school with many who did, and I noticed that they seemed to have much lower divorce rates among parents. I've wondered since if that's at least partly because of a fear of the matron to take over the masculine aspect of running a farm. Good writing!

Yes, Miranda, I agree with all that you wrote.=) Holding your own REAL book is the most delicious thing in the world, isn't it? And now too, I am at that other part of the journey, where you try to get an interest in your book. I just take it step by tiny step and see what I can do. And when I am disheartened by the selling and marketing process, I refuel by reading, and writing again! The writing will always remain irresistible. Thanks for your fun insights!

It does come in 'spurts' doesn't it? I've always found this odd... how a story will form, then literally pour out of you through your fingertips until there's no more to tell. And then the muse is gone... until the next time.

The fun part of writing my three books was writing my three books. Not so much fun, though, the twenty-four years it took to get the first one published... And when I sent the third to the publisher, after seven years of writing and re-writing and trying to get #3 published, when #3 left I had a major "empty nest syndrome" as witnessed by my poem, "Writing's Done".
Good article.

Latin music is awesome! You can't help but feel it in your soul. When I listen to it I can't stop moving either. I've taken some Zumba exercise classes, and they were completely amazing!!! Good job.

Ilove latin music and Caribbean music. I know I cannot dance at age 64 but I feel like getting out of the dance floor when those songs come to me and I hear them wherever I am at. My dancing days are over now, but I can hear the rhythm and enjoy the tunes.
