Gideon's Dawn (Book) - 4/15/2003 8:19:02 AM|
Gideon's Dawn will unquestionably be compared with The Fellowship of the Ring. This is unfortunate, because it is neither fair to the author nor the reader. Michael Warden has most certainly been inspired by Tolkien. But his imagery is much more lucid and concise, and therefore more interesting. In my mind, his writing is more closely akin to the fictional works of C.S. Lewis. But his story has a much greater sense of realism and urgency; thus, it is more personal, more involving. Make no mistake - Warden is his own writer. He literally transforms a genre - too often trite and cliché - with two qualities the fantasy realm has desperately needed: creativity and truth. The tapestry of images and words are woven so tightly, that Gideon's Dawn is a dynamic experience for the reader. The character development and storyline are well blended, so that neither detracts from the importance of the other. And the 'back story' is quite ingenious, but not without purpose, as it gives the story ever-present, fluid motion. Gideon's Dawn is both captivating and soul-searching. But don't let that description scare you...it is also undeniably thrilling - my heart was literally pounding on more than one occasion! You will not want (or be able) to put this book down! ...Thus begins the dreadfully long wait for book #2!
Alone With God: Walking Daily with the Real Jesus (Book) - 1/30/2003 10:26:20 AM
This little devotional is loaded with simple, yet profound insights into
God's character and the amazing ways He relates to His beloved children.
Even though each day's reading is only a few short paragraphs, Warden's
masterful choice of words helps to illuminate many of the deep truths
contained in the Bible. Even though I often read through several days worth
of these devotionals, many of them are so compelling I have to STOP and take
time to chew on what I've just read! Warden is also quite skilled at
reflecting back these profound truths of God's word by drawing out their
application in my own life. This book is definitely not just for singles! I
think every believer will be challenged and encouraged by this book to draw
closer to God in both maturity and intimacy.

Alone With God: Walking Daily with the Real Jesus (Book) - 12/30/2002 2:27:08 PM
Not just another "religious" feel-good devotional! Alone With God deals with real world issues in a way that that both challenges your thinking and refreshes your soul. Like the previous reviewer, I go back to it again...and again. :)
Alone With God: Walking Daily with the Real Jesus (Book) - 12/22/2002 7:09:59 AM
Rarely have I read a book that plumbs the depths of our humanity, while offering to us the truth that we can take Christ all the way into our souls without it seeming trite or like a quick fix that never has a lasting effect. I was refreshed and delighted by Mike's book, Alone with God. I go back to it again.
