The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 1/16/2006 1:56:17 PM|
We share a kinship for love of fishing and memories in Northwest
La. red dirt, piney wood lands. Love shows in your words as does the spelling of Momma, the way I spell it also.
I lived every moment with you. Thanks

I enjoyed this read so much, Jerry. I FEEL the excitement that lived within you that day. There are so many terrific images and descriptions here too. ("chocolate shade" is a great description) A magical, tender story with many lessons woven within. Thanks for sharing this one.
The Ramah Light (Short Story) - 11/22/2003 9:05:26 AM
I love it! Would you give me permission to make a fiction tale out of it for my anthology, a kind of what's real/what isn't kind of story? Let me know! We have a similar story to this up in Michigan but I love your brand of storytelling.
The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 11/19/2003 8:53:45 AM

The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 4/25/2003 1:29:29 PM
Why are you liberals such better writers than we conservatives? I started not to read this one because I've read it before, now I am glad I did, it is even better the second time. I've got a gold medal in my desk, this one deserves it...
The Ramah Light (Short Story) - 3/29/2003 1:44:11 PM

One Cold November Day (Short Story) - 2/6/2003 12:27:18 PM
This is a wonderful story. And I can tell you from having been a little girl myself who needed help once... The people or person who stops to help without asking for anything in return are always remembered.
I enjoy seeing the world through your eyes.
Momma Adkins, Pop, Hobo and me (Short Story) - 2/6/2003 12:10:43 PM
This is a wonderful story. It makes one imangine they are there watching this boy fish or like they are watching a movie.
It warms your heart to know a love like this can remain in this boy and his family. and to see the story through your eyes is amazing. You tell it very well.
Thank you and keep writing.
The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 2/5/2003 11:39:32 PM
I have a strange habit of reading things from end to beginning and then re-reading from beginning to end. This piece worked both ways, touching and meaningful. (and reminds me in some ways of my ten year old boy... angel child)
The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 1/30/2003 8:28:56 AM
Chocolate shade <---Now there's an image.
I loved it Jerry....It was rich with warmth and imagery...I swear its one of those stories you breathe not read.
The memories of Children are gold..My own are so precious to me...Running wild and free through the Australian bush...making friends with the roo's and enemies with the rather bad tempered emus..lol Dining on hot tea and buttered damper fresh from the coals...and watching my Father pan for gold...*Sigh* If only we could be children for longer... Thank you for sharing this.....Dani

The One That Got Away (Short Story) - 1/28/2003 7:23:09 AM
This is very wonderful story. The memories of childhood are often the best things to write about, and you have done so very well. As for your question..."Was there a luckier, happier ten-year-old on planet Earth that day? " If there was would I don't think it would have mattered to you.

Simple Needs (Poetry) - 1/10/2006 11:40:15 PM
Change the name of the lake to Saline and you will be speaking for me. It is the place I grew up and loved. My family, fishing , coming in cleaning and cooking the ones caught and telling stories about the "big one" that got away.
What wonderful memories this brings!

There used to be a time when I could not comprehend why one would entertain thoughts of ending themselves. Like all things, that time has passed and now I understand completely. This is beautiful Jerry. Better to have loved and lost, yes? Yes. (Make a deal with yourself okay? Sign on for the duration... )

Indian Summer Daze (Poetry) - 3/21/2004 10:52:50 AM
Made me very nostalgic for fall. It's soon to be spring where I am.

This was so beautifully expressed, I loved this poem, very lovely,
Indian Summer Daze (Poetry) - 3/21/2004 6:23:54 AM
"Autumn tried to force its way through the door"... <----- something happened when this line passed my eyes, Jerry... the entire poem took on a 'slant' for me after this marvelous, metaphoric line... As poetic as this is, regarding season changes, I found a whole second layer that also suggests the aging process... it is, indeed, a feast of reading... but more than even that, it's a huge treat to see you around... (or did I miss something... sigh). smile... katy xox.
Indian Summer Daze (Poetry) - 3/21/2004 6:21:09 AM

This is one of those poems that fixes itself inside me... God, this is good!! katy xox.

Missed Mates (Poetry) - 10/9/2003 9:10:47 PM
I'm especially impressed by someone here who knows who John Greenleaf Whittier was, and has actually read his writing. I'm afraidmy favorite poem of his is "In School Days",
and that one is almost unknown nowadays.

Exit Poet (Poetry) - 7/26/2003 4:09:38 AM
Insightful, profound, and dare I say spritual; though I'm not quite sure what spiritual signifies.
Willow (Poetry) - 7/26/2003 4:01:00 AM
Moving, fluid, and plangent. Moving enough I suspect that the willow may no longer weep.
Old Souls (Poetry) - 7/19/2003 2:08:33 PM
I hope you read this. You left a review on the first poem I ever wrote, "Eternity,"
back on Jan 29. I just found it. I do resonate with this poem, too. There are, indeed, a handful of people whom I knew that I'd known for a very long time the moment I met them. It is a precious, ominous sensation. Vicky
Long Gone Love (Poetry) - 7/12/2003 6:22:03 PM
Thought I'd make contact. I love the sentiment of holding that love in your heart. Who hasn't dreamt of a love past with such longing while realising the impossibility of the wish? My ideas of love aren't orthodox but I still appreciate the beauty of this poem. I hope to hear from you.

Jerry, "She was wounded when I found her,
Gave her love and made her whole,
Then her old love came and claimed her
And she left and took my soul.
In my dreams at night I hold her,
In my dreams she loves me still-
Yet I know I can't possess her
And I know I never will."
this is so moving and heartbreaking. speaking as one from experience... thank you for sharing, and so glad to meet you...

Yesterday's Eyes (Poetry) - 6/20/2003 5:58:15 PM
Lovely and very very true. You should write songs. You have a musical sense of language!
Long Gone Love (Poetry) - 6/20/2003 5:50:54 PM
Jerry, this is poinant and lovely. I generally don't go for rhyming poetry, but you pull this one off so smoothly. It communicates it's melancholy very truly. Nice nice work.
Tasting the Night (Poetry) - 6/20/2003 5:47:13 PM
This piece reminds me of the sweet openness to experience children have, and lose as they grow their adult callouses (well, except poets tend not to callous easily...). Very nice. When my son was about 12 months old, I was driving him home from his father's house, and he said, "Mommy! The moon loves me! Look! It loves me!" Very nice flash piece (although I am not sure about "enrichen" as a word. Enrich would do. Nice work, Jerry!
Sarah (Poetry) - 6/18/2003 5:43:40 PM

Yesterday's Eyes (Poetry) - 5/30/2003 5:31:28 PM
Sigh. Yes to those Yesterday's Eyes. My parents passed away 10 years ago, I was an adult, and they gettting up there... but I still remember them as they looked when they were young, and vital, and I was but a child...
And ... indeed ... It's a blessing when you can age with your spouse, side by side, and still see him/her with Yesterday's Eyes...
Live Long and Prosper, Jerry.
Exit Poet (Poetry) - 5/30/2003 5:26:10 PM

Exit Poet (Poetry) - 5/24/2003 7:26:26 AM
My god, Jerry.. noone seems to realize it in your comments.. this is your 'goodbye' to the den, isn't it? I'm quite speechless at the brilliance of this work.. this has a mystical quality, a unique ringing in it that gave me pause.. melancholy, yet stark with truths. If you are going, you are leaving us with your best.. don't go. My heart has already said goodbye to so many. sigh. katy.

Jerry, this is a very beautiful expression of real, lasting love. Love that lives on, no matter distance, nor time, nor death.
Reminds me of something I read that went something like this: Sad are the hearts that loved you, silent are the tears that fall...
Good to read you again.
He loved Laura...
