This is a page-turning novel that will reveal some of the greatest fallacies regarding pharmaceuticals today, while rooting the adventures of the main character, Magdalena, in a Christian themed suspense story. The book is profound and will leave you questioning some of the very "truths" that have been perpetuated by the government and the pharmaceutical industry. No matter your religious, political or educational background this novel will reach each one of you and everyone will take something important away from it. This book is a first step in getting educated and opening up our eyes. Spread the word!

Like Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring," J.D. Masterson's first novel is a call to action!
The Scorpion’s Sting is a brilliant tour de force, a must read!
This stunning page-turner engaged and spoke to so many parts of me I am amazed, and blown away. It’s a suspense-filled mystery that took me on a roller coaster ride, challenging to the core my beliefs, thoughts, perspectives and admittedly calls into question my rather sheepish laxity and propensity to leave the tough battles for someone else to fight.
I appreciate Mags—the outspoken heroine—who questions everything and thinks for herself. She carefully follows every clue, leaving no stone unturned, courageously takes the road less traveled, and musters the inner strength to confront difficult and dangerous situations in her quest for the truth, ultimately to save lives!
Like Rachel Carson’s “Silent Spring,” J.D. Masterson’s powerful first novel is a call to action! It is a cry from the deepest depths of an awakened human, whose eyes and heart are wide open, urging us to wake up, pay attention, heed the warning signs, listen to and validate our feelings, paying close attention to learning to read and interpret the signs and messages within our bodies, in nature, and in the world around us. And especially calls us to heed the cries of others in pain and suffering.
I am inspired by Mags to courageously and consciously take my life to the next level, to step up to the plate and help get the word out about HPV (human papilloma virus) and the HPV vaccine, instead of waiting around for someone else to do this—I Say YES, Mags, the Time IS Now and I sign on to help!
Will you join me before there is a need for another Requiem Mass to honor the dead that we could not save because we got stuck in denial and fear?
Let’s build a coalition of hearts and hands today!

The Scorpion's Sting (Book) - 10/28/2010 6:06:45 AM
From A Roman Catholic Nun who did leave the church, who is reading it a second time so as not to miss anything...
"Your background and your knowledge are so incredible....I know nothing about the Amplified Bible and very little about the Bible, so this will need more attention from me, but in general I found it most enlightening. I loved the part about caring for dying children and their parents, and was moved by your reason for giving up psychology. The main theme about the medical pharmacological groups promoting the unnecessary and harmful vaccines and excessive use of prescriptions was most enlightening. It gave me new thoughts abouth the fourteen or more pills I take each day. You did a great job on the Catholic Church, which I was happy to see. And even though people like me find it hard to digest, I'm very glad you've added writing to your very varied career! F.O.

Welcome to the world of fiction Dr. Magdalena LaSige. She is found in The Scorpion's Sting bouncing from career choice to career choice, and moments of extreme wealth and pleasure to poverty and despair. Well educated and smart, modest and kind, humble and bull-headed, Lasige is a woman of contradictions and a very interesting character.
In the first of what Masterson promises to be a series of books involving Magdalena Lasige, the unlikely hero finds herself drawn back into the world of wealth and power that she once thought she loved and hated at the same time. Called back by a former college professor she admires Lasige is asked to take part in a mystery of a missing nun. Her acceptance of this invitation leads Lasige down a path of intrigue, danger, and conviction that she enjoys and bemoans at the same time.
Filled with almost every conspiracy theory one can think of, J.D. Masterson's new book is one that will make the reader think if nothing else. Are the elite rich of the United States running a shadow government? Are vaccines cloaked as good for our future actually killing more than they are saving? Are the religious of the world to be trusted or is there something to this whole Catholic v. Protestant idea? These are just a few of the questions asked in Masterson's fictitious novel.
Masterson challenges the reader to think about the things he is saying and will cause one to think outside of their normal beliefs as they read this book. Who and what in this world can we really trust? Are the answers to many of the questions we have about the universe, God, and historical mysteries hidden in plain sight? Masterson will make you want to investigate some of what he believes.
While I cannot endorse everything that Masterson quietly presents as truths about the universe our God has created in this book, I will say that if read with the remembrance that this book is fiction, one could find great enjoyment in this book and perhaps have their understanding of how the world works expanded.
Two things really stood out in this book as marks of excellence. First, Masterson prefaced each chapter with a quote or piece of scripture that drives the ideas presented in the chapter the quote prefaces. This was a wonderful touch and prepared the reader for what lies ahead.
The second outstanding achievement that J.D. Masterson accomplishes in this book is found about half way through the book. A very unconventional conversion from Catholic (a nun no less) to Protestant Christian takes place. This piece of writing is one that will stand out for this reader for quite some time. I can think of no better strategy for such a conversion than what Masterson presents to the reader.
Once again, with the disclaimer of REMEMBER, THIS IS FICTION, placed upon this book, I would recommend this book to the readers of ThisPilgrimLand. Please help Masterson, a man who seems to be interested in the truth, by considering purchasing The Scorpion's Sting.

Erica Elise Brevik's post:
This is definitely a book well worth reading! I would love to see it transform into a movie or perhaps a series on TV. It has an innovative way of making the reader think more deeply about what is going on in the world.

This is a fascinating and intellectually stimulating read that I would highly recommend to all. Truth seekers, conspiracy theorists and theologists alike will find the detail and knowledge presented in the book to be both accurate and well researched. Although fiction, I found much of the information in the book to be factually in line with other reading and research I've done on the same or similar subjects. So whether or not you call it "conspiracy" - seemed very based in fact to me. The subject matter speaks to what is relevent and incredibly important in today's society. An excellent "Book Club" book which could keep a group discussing late into the night. I enjoyed every minute of this book and look forward to more works by J.D. Masterson soon!!
What I love most about living in the Northeast Kingdom/Eastern Townships is the number of extremely talented people in the most unsuspecting places.
We are friends and neighbours in both countries and yet there are so many interesting facets to her life that I am, only now, discovering. Her new book launch is just one of them.
