RIVERWATCH is a horror-fan's delight! I couldn't put this one down until I was finished. Nassise breathes life into his characters--and into the genre itself. Nassise's voice is a mixture of Douglas Clegg and Frank Perretti, but uniquely his own. Don't miss it!"

Modern horror writers are under continuous pressure to innovate. Vampires run nightclubs, ghouls haunt the Internet and serial killers are masters of culinary science. It is very unusual for an author to tackle a traditional plot and bring it to successful fruition. So I was much surprised to discover that Joseph Nassise had produced a fine, spirited tale of horror and suspense that could have taken place almost any time in the past 200 years and been just as readable as it is in it's modern setting.
Nassise paints his characters with all their humanity, rather than creating two dimensional heroes. As such, their mistakes and fears make an otherwise fantastic tale easily believable. From start to spectacular finish the plot never flags. Moloch's nonchalant and consuming violence steadily builds suspense and momentum. For a first novel, "Riverwatch" is very well crafted with good balance between plot, atmospheric narrative, and characterization. I give Nassise's tale a full recommendation, and hope he goes on to write more

Overall this is a fine read and clearly one of the best first novels I've ever come across. In RIVERWATCH, Joseph Nassise displays a solid storytelling sense, plot and character development, and a finely crafted balance of both action and people driving the tale forward. Nothing is wasted on fictional sidestreets or other literary meanderings. RIVERWATCH moves with the same powerful intent and grace as the Nightshade itself. In RIVERWATCH, Joe demonstrates his potential for becoming one of the greatest Horror writers of our time.

Riverwatch is a compelling read, fast to grab the reader's attention and difficult to put down. Comparable to the writings of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Nassise tells a chilling story of an ancient evil freed from an entombment meant to entrap the ritualistic creature for eternity.
"Intense and hard-hitting. Riverwatch is the type of horror novel that is compiled of precise amounts of suspense and gore, producing some truly frightening scenes. Riverwatch may be Nassise's first novel, but I hope it is not his last; he is the kind of talented writer that can shine in a tight-knit genre of select writers.

Riverwatch is a stunning debut novel, intricately plotted and beautifully written. Nassise knows that a good 'monster' novel needs to be fast paced and terrifying ... and he delivers action and frights galore! Watch out for Joe Nassise ... he's already made his mark.

In his debut novel Riverwatch, author Joseph Nassise brings his characters to life in a way that uses both their strengths and their weaknesses to make them whole. I felt like I could meet them on the street, and that added to the horror of their situation. The action held me in its grip and the intense pacing kept me reading. I read it in one night's sitting because I couldn't put it down. I had to find out what happened to these people I immediately liked. There is no question that with this debut novel Joseph Nassise has a solid start on a great career.

"Joseph M. Nassise weaves his way through the often intricate plot of his new Riverwatch with a lean but powerful and assured style generally reserved for veteran novelists. The result is a solid, haunting, and evocative piece of work. Riverwatch is not to be missed and Nassise is definitely a writer to keep an eye on."

"Don't read this with the lights off! Just when I thought no one could come up with a book that would scare me, Joe Nassise pulls one out of a hat! This first time author will be going far. As you should know by now, I do not reveal major plot points, so you will just have to read it for yourself to get the full effect.
...If you want to read a book that is new and fresh, this is the book for you. If you want ho-hum horror, this is NOT the book for you. From cover to cover this book will keep you riveted to the pages and on the edge of your seat. If you think nothing can scare you anymore, give this talented author the chance to prove you wrong. . .I guarantee, you will not be disappointed!"

"The kind of book that once you start it you can't put it down...exciting and damn scary!"
Riverwatch (Book) - 5/22/2001 6:00:58 PM
"Riverwatch is a fine debut novel containing elements from several genres, including horror, dark fantasy and mystery. It is a novel of good vs. evil, the fight between two ancient races and the contemporary lives disrupted by the feud.
"What I liked most about Riverwatch were the glimpses into the lives of its characters. Nassise spent a lot of time crafting them and it shows."
