Neither perpendicular Nor parallel (Poetry) - 5/21/2013 8:14:53 AM
This must have been a challenge to write. You have managed to insert quite a few geometrical terms in one short poem with a Wordsworth- like intimation of mortality at the end.

Uh huh, you talking to me here, Vivian. Those bottled secrets, forever hidden from the sun. Truth struggle for release, but denied, denied, denied. Still, one day in October 2011 I found a way to release the bottled thoughts and let the truth follow the sun.

Neither perpendicular Nor parallel (Poetry) - 5/19/2013 12:51:34 PM
if like trees our time is measured by rings, concentric parallelisms mere millimeters apart, how close must the gaps be that link not separate us in eternity... when all measure meanders towards an immense voluminous apogee where evolutionary or revolutionary thought becomes the rarest form of redundancy and what once was perpendicular resolves itself to intersticing on MacArthur Park's melting cake...
This is, in my mind, the rarest sequel to that poem you wrote called MacArthur Park ... all those months ago...
...this troubadour is acting on his part...the calling of our hearts... ...loved it, Dearest Vivian!
Roger
Neither perpendicular Nor parallel (Poetry) - 5/19/2013 12:41:03 PM
A most revealing poem, Vivian. The separation and lifestyle being what it is until passion or rekindled love fuses the two together. The halo's are a stark reminder of what is, or has, taken place.

Reign of Rain (Poetry) - 5/16/2013 10:17:05 AM
I remember reading a rain poem by Longfellow in the distant past; such a miserable piece. This poem is a complete contrast and has such a serene atmosphere. Faith in rain poems restored.

possessed droplets like dripping diamonds

Winter of our Summer Snow (Poetry) - 5/13/2013 6:36:03 PM
some blankets are definitely more memorable, more supple, more lithe and more malleable than others, some hotter, some colder... and as the seasons of our lives do their slow dance upon our souls, most oftener than not, we snuggle closest to those whose blanket promises to keep us warm whether the weather threatens or invites, and this poem hints at all of that and more because the summer snows knows more than it lets on ...
Thanks for the wink and the prayer, dearest Vivian.

Sealed with a Kiss (Poetry) - 5/11/2013 10:00:30 AM
Your poem has the same sixties air about it as the song of the same title. A sort of innocence we seem to have lost along the way. I like the romantic idea if having a special place to read love letters. An elegant little poem.

Iris for an Eye (Poetry) - 5/9/2013 9:29:43 AM
Good to see Iris getting a mention; she is rather overlooked in mythology, we all immediately think of Mercury and Hermes when messengers are discussed. The image of hopes and fears being delivered to the gods is quite original and your piece comes across vividly.

Often wander barefoot, when visiting my favourite park

The Pen (Poetry) - 5/3/2013 11:01:46 AM
The pen is all but gone, but the written word continues on and grows exponentially as the world communicates in ways that were never thought of before and change is accelerated to the point where it scares those born in a quieter, slower time.
But I have faith that the written word will conquer all the swords ever created and pound them into plowshares of good living for those of us who have to share the planet with its limited resources.
Your words, O poet, once in cyberspace, will last until eternity. Write them well.

Dream to Walk a Mile (Poetry) - 4/29/2013 8:32:57 AM
Yes, the dream many have that actually comes true. The dream, combined with love and day-to-day reality is truly a "Dream to Walk a Mile." Nicely worded, Vivian.

Horizons Red (Poetry) - 4/28/2013 10:35:59 AM
There is an old Irish saying on the subject that your last two lines bring to mind: "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal."
Eyes for Beholden (Poetry) - 4/28/2013 7:33:20 AM
That's why I like the Victorian era so much. So much wasteful extravagance cutting down all the trees to build those beautiful mansions and fill them with beautiful ladies with corsets so tight that their waists were small and delicate like the lilacs in the vase on the dining room table. Sorry, waxing nostalgic again.

You are correct, there is only here and now, but even so the here and now of us is a product of things past.

Haunting is this piece of poetry, Vivian. The photo cast the drama perfectly, the woman being portrayed vividly and the man as faded memories. Excellent writing.

When brevity bears necessity what will not wit invent? An intriguing aphoristic proverb here... I like how your phrasing makes "soul" confluent with "league" as if mind/emotion/will were in cahoots, and the product of the conspiracy is mirth itself!
As usual, your pithy proverbial poems pull us out of pensive thought and make us marvel at your ingenuity, dear Vivian.
Then there is the "no small matter" of the briefer and briefer garment parade on the clothesline of time in your picture! ...and mirth explodes in gales of laughter!!

Winter of our Summer Snow (Poetry) - 4/22/2013 8:16:37 AM
I think I prefer Summer, not to say Winter is bad. There is no evidence of a winter of discontent in this piece, shades of growing old disgracefully too.

"Pride in your stride" . . . I like that. It says so much and means so much, and can be used, of course, to describe a man or a woman's proud and upbeat walk. Very nice tribute to the Appaloosa, a truly noble horse.

How good it would be to have the ability to close the gate on a beautiful vision in such a way to preserve it for the future. I suspect that if we had that ability there would be a world of closed gates.
