Good story! As Regis noted, the perspective has been done before, but you've definitely put a new slant on it. Belle is believeable - she won't turn an a dime like many fictional dogs. She has learned to survive in a very different world. I hope she decides to stay on.
Thanks for the interesting read,
Terry
This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 3/15/2007 8:31:51 AM
I really like this. I'll trade sweet nostalgia for interesting reality anytime. Sure, who doesn't like those old photographs, but to go forth and experience life - that's where we all should be!
Enjoyed it, thanks,
Terry

Belle's Star Ch 2 (Short Story) - 3/9/2007 10:32:14 AM
A delightful write, Connie. It reminds me of a story that I read as a child. It was written from the perspective of a donkey and it was fascinating. Thank you. Love and peace to you,

This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 12/14/2006 8:51:28 AM
Had to come here after I saw your comment on ELT's Homeless Santa poem. Its great to find someone else who knows the real origin of Christmas.
Great story, evoked memories for me of the time I spent in New York (City and State)in the 1960. The subway was crazy then too.
But I can tell Elizabeth the London subway is no saner. The schematic diagram looks logical but some of the stations are so Labyrinthine people habe wandered around for hours.
Contra Wish (Short Story) - 10/31/2006 9:22:08 AM

This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 10/24/2006 8:36:46 AM
I really enjoy this. The subway comes alive in your words. Having lived some time in Taos and most times in New York I can thoroughly enjoy the point of view and emotion you've herein expressed. Next time you're in New York try the greatest ocean voyage you'll ever have for 50 cents aboard the Staten Island ferry another true NY treat for the eyes.

This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 9/11/2006 3:54:44 PM
Excellent! Constance M. Gotsch knows her stuff! The word pictures, the swift transitions, the way her writing takes you there, sits you down, and hands you a subway sandwich... Very well done! Indeed this is writing I like to chew!

This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 7/26/2006 2:24:44 PM
Constance, nice story and full of detail that has the reader standing in the crush of people on or off the trains. I think so many writers today lack the imagination to be descriptive enough in their work, but you don't fall into this catagory for you know how to write well. Congratulations!

This One Ya Can't Eat (Short Story) - 2/28/2006 3:34:28 PM
Sounds like a nightmare. I was studying the London Underground, and it looks so efficient. NY could take lessons from them. No wonder the terrorist misfits were so desperate to blow it up.
Good article. I will avoid when next in NY. Been there many times but never had need of the subway.

The Vote Has My Vote (Article) - 8/10/2006 7:12:13 PM
Personally, I would like to see a lot more women "in charge" of things in this world for a change. It's obvious that men have "screwed" things up enough. Thank you for sharing this review, Connie. Love and peace to you,

The Vote Has My Vote (Article) - 7/30/2006 4:57:27 AM
Waiting for Congress to resolve anything meaningful is a joke on the voter. It is hard to imagine this kind of behavior or treatment of half the population in America, but watching the elected cartoons in today's Washingtion gives an idea of what these fools can't do, will do, and doodoo.
A good review, Connie. I would buy, just for the history, which can be dry anyway. You just have to have a love of history.

Roger Bacon's Vision (Poetry) - 4/5/2007 11:51:55 PM
Reading this outstanding poetic-historic composition I was taken on vision on wings of imagination, and twenty centuries of history made to order and by order of... Back on my own: "Roger Bacon's Vision" brings a mind's stimulating aroma that invites one to think of freedom and humanity.
I thank You for sharing Your jewels.
I salute You, Poet.

My Own Kind of Swan (Poetry) - 4/5/2007 11:33:26 PM

My Own Kind of Swan (Poetry) - 2/21/2007 12:04:52 PM
Dear Constance,
Let me first admit that why I'm here at your den is because I saw your picture in the Featured Authors section and said, "Whoa! I've got to check into this lady."
I skimmed through most of your bio information, but when I saw listed your poem My Own Kind of Swan, I had to stop. The title suggests a lot, and your words tell me more. I think you've had somewhat of a fractured adventure in life. But nothing seems to have come your way that's not only exciting but steady and reliable and dependable. For that I'm sorry. But through all this you are still a swan, a swan that is floating free.
All that has gone before is merely preparation for now, dear Constance. Now is when you begin. Everything before serves only as a springboard for your finest hour. You've been hardened by life and have come through it with a soft and lovely face that stopped me cold. And I've been chugging down the tracks so long I feel like I own them.
So now I've stopped to say hello and offer a quick impression. But you haven't heard the last of me. You posted My Own Kind of Swan nearly two years ago. I'll be back soon to see what's been happening. In the meantime, stay close to those speakers 'cause you'll be hearing the voice of my friendship approaching in the breeze.
My very best wishes for your new vibrant success!
Richard
P.S. Still think you're being scorned by men?
My Own Kind of Swan (Poetry) - 2/15/2007 5:18:04 AM
A nice swan to meet! Life is one tough road,
and by now, we can look back and be proud we made it this far...You are a wonderful inspiration to many still in the midst of the struggles! So glad you got those speakers! :)
Very well done, Constance~

Imaginative...
An author is only as good as her imagination. Good job, Constance!
My Own Kind of Swan (Poetry) - 10/18/2006 6:54:10 PM
Wow! You've told the story of your life in one poem, and you've done more than most people, I too was told that I would never amount to anything only by my father, who by the was too busy with his own cheating life to bother with ours. But despite what he said or others I am living four of my dreams, I am a teacher, I am a wife still married to my high school sweetheart whom I married at the young age of sixteen, I am a mother, grandmother and author. We can be what we want to be...our inner strength lies within, and thank God for one strong parent. Your write was fantastic, it has given me much to think about and memories to recall.
Blessings,
Joyce Bowling

Roger Bacon's Vision (Poetry) - 6/17/2006 4:59:56 AM
Did you really have the vision? If so, I believe you. I have also seen things that people say I should not be seeing. I enjoyed this write. It made me pause to think what the future may hold years from now. I believe people will be living on many planets. Just between you and me, I think they do now!

What a gem! Be sure to eat unwisely before retiring so you will dream
more dreams that you can spin into multi-faceted diamonds!
In my opinion, what makes this one sparkle is the economy. Details are all there, and you wrap it up with a down-to-earth scene methinks reflects sly wit. More! More!! 'Pea' <3
Roger Bacon's Vision (Poetry) - 2/2/2006 8:39:22 AM
Very nice, very apt, and very original...a curious blend of past and future that plops me down right here, right now. The next time I ride upon a stick I'll think of Roger Bacon, the man of a thousand dreams, and perhaps I too will dream a dream, "perchance to sleep no more". Thank you. john
