This is really pretty, Heather. Looks like somewhere in the South Island. Just a pointer on the Haiku - The three line stanza's are great, but usually are constructed with a pattern of syllables as follows: 1st line, 5 syllables, second line, 7 syllables and the third line returns to 5 syllables. Well done with this poignantly sad write.

Hello Heather
Just found your poem 'New Zealand is my Home' and tried to send you a message on 'contact author', but there seems to be a problem and I really wanted to contact you to say 'Hi' from one Kiwi, to another! So here I am trying again via your second poem...
This was the message:
So good to see your work here. I have only met a couple of ex-pat Kiwis on Authors Den but you are the first 'local'! I've been writing at Authorsden for almost a year and was introduced by a penfriend from Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, Russia!! LOL!!! It's the first time I've written publicly and I find it so incredibly encouraging as I'm sure you will too.
Keep writing.
I look forward to reading more of your work here!
P.S. I'm an hour north of you in Wellsford!
Anyway, was sad to see the content of this poem. A beautiful tribute, however, heartwrenching. This is going to be good for you - it will help you to work through some of the grief... It takes time and good friends - I hope you'll have plenty of both here.
Warmest regards...

I come from Taranaki, and grew up under the mountain ( maunga ) ranges, the bush became as a friend, no fear, just peace always.

Take care Stay kapai

(((HEATHER)))
First of all, welcome to Authorsden; we are so glad you are here!
Secondly, let me offer you my deepest sympathies on the loss of your mother! Such a shame; she died way too young! My prayers and heartfelt condolences to you on your loss! (I know just how it is; I lost my own mother at the age of 59 1/2 on March 17, 1990; it will be fourteen years since she's passed on; and I still miss her even now.) A beautiful and haertfelt tribute; she will live on in your memory!
