A Feeling For The Quickness Of Time: poems (Book) - 9/23/2006 7:48:33 AM|
I love this man's work and this 4th title is a simply wonderful read! Like his other poetry collections, it is arranged in sections and I often dip into one on the train to work. It makes commuting almost bearable. His poems are frequently thought-provoking but (perhaps more importantly, for people like me who are not natural poetry lovers) always very readable.
A Feeling For The Quickness Of Time: poems (Book) - 6/5/2006 1:13:36 AM
The fourth book in the quartet, the author keeps up his high standard of poetry .Rogers verse reflects well the 20/21st century and he writes very much with an eye on life not only as he sees it, but HOW it is . The Author has the knack of writing poetry on subjects so ordinary and in a simple to read way .
A must for the reader of contemporary work.
Love And Human Remains: poems (Book) - 3/10/2004 5:55:03 AM
I have combined gay-interest and other poetry in an attempt to show that 'gay poetry' is not a separate genre-within-a-genre and deserves a higher profile than the occasional token anthology. - Roger N. Taber

I found this book a refreshingly readable collection of poems, all different and passing significant comment on life and nature. I also found the gay-interest poems enjoyable and they gave me an important insight into the way gay people think and feel. The poet clearly has a strong sense of spirituality and this comes across in many of his poems. I will keep this book to hand as I also find many of the poems very comforting.
First Person Plural: poems (Book) - 3/10/2004 5:48:58 AM
I am delighted by feedback on the book. I deliberately combine gay-interest and other poems in an attempt to show that gay poetry is as good as any other and not a separate genre-within-a-genre. At poetry readings - invariably to mixed gay/straight audiences - I am always pleased my work is well recieved as that of a poet, not (just) a 'gay poet'. - Roger N. Taber

Having also read Love And Human Remains by this poet, I looked forward to a new volume of poetry and have to say I am not disappointed. It is easy to relate to Taber's poems. He tackles contemporary issues and thoughts that concern us all. His gay poems are refreshingly unselfconscious and some, in my view, should rate among the best contemporary love poetry. The poems in this volume come across as both personal and caring; they lead the reader into both unknown and familiar territories, where heart and mind can either relax and feel at home or explore and discover new dimensions of poetry, philosophy and everyday concerns. His poems are varied as he writes in different voices, each one a pleasure to "hear". I agree with a blurb on the back cover: "Simply, without being simplistic, his poems invite us to share a growing concern for Green and social issues, to all of which he brings a spiritual dimension". The lay-out of the book, in five sections, also makes it easier, more interesting and often exciting to read. I sincerely hope we can look forward to another volume of poems by Roger Taber and will continue to enjoy reading his latest input on the Internet. We should be hearing much more of this man - who also appears to be the only contemporary poet combining gay and other poetry under one cover...a literary innovation I commend to other readers.
