Souls of the North Wind (Book) - 5/30/2006 5:48:56 PM
Souls of the North Wind is rich with Canadian tundra imagery. McVay has done a magnificent job in articulating Inuit customs, beliefs, and sacred observances in this story. McVay's characters are worth studying as examples of the primitive state that civilized societies have emerged from. Souls of the North Wind makes a profound impression. McVay uses words of lasting import and as I read the story, I ask myself what advantage our society possesses over that of more primitive cultures, and I find, the more I read about the Ihalmiut customs in Souls of the North Wind, that we have no right to look down upon them. McVay enters a world with a vast body of Inuit legends and customs that lend beauty and significance to all facets of life. Souls of the North Wind is the carved tusk storage box of customs that preserve Inuit tribal heritage. Chrissy McVay is an excellent interpreter who through Souls of the North Wind has helped convey the richness of the Inuit culture to us. Souls of the North Wind greatly increases the value of the Inuit culture. Congratulations Souls of the North Wind for winning the silver (second place) in ForeWord magazine's Book of the Year Award in the juvenile fiction category! Well-deserving! Sage

Souls of the North Wind (Book) - 1/4/2006 4:56:28 PM
A Magnificent Adventure Story! Author Chrissy McVay has written a wonderful action adventure tale set in the frozen northland and centering around two brave young Inuit boys and their courageous sled dogs. Although written for a juvenile audience, I believe this book will appeal to readers of all ages who love action, suspense, and very intriguing ancient Native American customs, lifestyles, legends, and lore as much as I do. Author McVay has definitely done her homework; and she's spun a marvelous tale. I couldn't put this book down!

The Voice of a Golden (Short Story) - 7/14/2008 12:03:15 PM
Our beloved Angel lived a year over what was expected. On the morning of July 14, 08 she was running down the hall (nothing could slow her down) and her shoulder bone on her front leg broke. She'd been a three legged dog, and with the cancer making the bones so brittle, she could go on no more. Doc said it wouldn't heal and she'd be in pain. I'm glad she was chasing squirrels and being herself right up to the end. It was difficult to let her go, but I could do no less for such a faithful friend of nine years... Thank you all for your kind words. Chrissy K. McVay

The Voice of a Golden (Short Story) - 12/23/2007 12:07:02 PM
This is heart-warming and meaningful in evidence of how animals can indeed be better at being "human" than some humans themselves can be. Thank you, Chrissy. Love and peace to you, Regis

Bump in the Night (Short Story) - 6/30/2007 10:03:45 AM
All bears are powerful. In Colorado, most of the bears are black bears. Rarely are grizzly bears reported. Brown bears are mostly in Alaska. Even so, you are lucky your dog did not try to ‘take on’ the bear.

Soloist (Short Story) - 6/10/2007 4:23:35 AM
From the first words and so on the "I couldn't put it down" applaies to this short story, one reads on wishing to se where that literaty road was going and if it had twisting and surprises ahead. Well constructed, with a touch of David Linch "Twin Peaks" syndrome. Excellent. Georg

Soloist (Short Story) - 6/9/2007 11:38:21 AM
Very well written! The rhythm of this hits many deep chords with me of my own past Harley-riding days. This story so very closely comes out of an episode in my life. This is the kind of story that captures all three; diversity, intelligence, and creativity through the arts, Ms. McVay quilled vicissitude, from one life to another, storytelling at it's best, not saturated with ignorance and hatred, leaving our past lives as we know behind, blessing them with fantasy, giving it all a new name through Soloist. Very transformational story, Chrissy... Sage

Men in Skirts!!! (Article) - 1/28/2007 2:16:33 AM
Chrissy (here's a smidge of old history), the outfits of the bagpipers are not far off from the outfits of Roman field soldiers, and when the Scots (Celts) were in attack mode, those bagpipes scared the hell outta their foes. What everybody heard at the Highland Games was just the tip of what they can do -- tweaking your mind. They were enough to make the seasoned Romans cringe. And Celts did not take prisoners. Good stuff! Ted

I love the Blue Ridge mountains. For a while I entertained moving to Ashville for the university and the mountains, and I used to live in Charlottesville, Va., right by the Blue Ridge. Plus, I'm a bath and body diva. So I like this article, :-) , not to mention that I also have a "dawg," a Lab Retriever mixed with something else I'm not sure about. LOL. Thank you for being so supportive of me, Chrissy. You are so kind and sweet. ~~Nordette

Losing a faithful friend (Poetry) - 4/14/2009 7:50:59 AM
Pets are truly angels sent to love us unconditionally, so your retriever was aptly named, Chrissy. So sorry you lost her! Golden Retrievers have to be the most loyal and sweetest dogs on earth. I lost my dog to poison placed in meat and left to kill neighborhood cats by a neighbor(what kind of soul can do this?). Didn't know and by the time she had symptoms, it was too late to save her. It was devastating. How I wish she could have lived out her life. "Fragile circle", indeed. But the memories of that love will never be forgotten. Hugs...Lin

Losing a faithful friend (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 9:23:41 PM
The loss of a cherished family pet and good friend is a tragedy just as sorrowful as losing any other family member. We cry, we smile at memories, we move on but always with thoughts in our minds and our hearts of the one who went on ahead of us. My sincere codolences Chrissy. Hugs Fee

Those who are loved will live through the lives of those who love them. "Losing a faithful friend" is an intense pain that makes one grow in grace and spirit. I hope that the memory of the loved one gives You creative energy and gratitude to life. In respect and admiration, Andre Emmanuel Bendavi ben-YEHU

Losing a faithful friend (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 6:42:16 PM
Chrissy, I am so sorry for the loss of your friend. Even though many would consider her "only" a dog, to you she was a valued member of your family. Any of us who love God's creatures feels the depth of your pain. If there is anything I can do, please let me know. Sage (below) alluded to the Inuit. If I remember right, the soul goes to the Northern Lights. May you see her playful spirit in the comfort of the Lights. Also, look for my Daddy, who passed away May 28 - wish I could see the Lights here in Texas, so I could say 'Hello' and 'Goodbye' ... An excellent, heartbroken sharing. God bless and give you peace - (((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Losing a faithful friend (Poetry) - 7/18/2008 6:11:41 PM
Dear Chrissy, When you emailed me a few days ago about Angel Michelle McVay's departure from this plane of life, I was also devastated. As I told you, the picture of her and you on the back of your book cover which you sent me, Souls of the North Wind, will be that much more special. This book is special anyway because of the Inuit, and I have researched how this Indian tribe mourns the loss of their animals...so may Angel Michelle's spirit live on in everyone's heart. My condolences, Chrissy to you and your family...I know you had many memorable treks with Angel Michelle...the card from your vet is beautiful...I grieve for Angel Michelle with you... Love Always, Sage
